Land Acknowledgement.

Imani Montessori Community School resides on the territory of Tanasi, the original landscape of the Tsalagi Gawonihisdi-speaking Cherokee and Shawnee people.

Today, the Cherokee and Shawnee people have Nation boundaries in Oklahoma, after the Indian Removal Act of 1830 led to the forced removal of southern tribes west of the Mississippi River.

We recognize that every member of the Nashville community has, and continues to benefit from, the use and occupation of this land. Consistent with our values of community, inclusion, and diversity, Imani Montessori honors our responsibility as educators to acknowledge and teach our children the history of this land.

We recognize, support, and advocate for the Indigenous individuals and communities who live here now, and for those forcibly removed from their Homelands. By offering this Land Acknowledgement, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty and will work to be more accountable to the needs of American Indian and Indigenous peoples.”

Imani Montessori encourages community members that are able to contribute to The Native American Indian Association of Tennessee.

  • Dream it.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
